It is similar in size and form to historical scouting tankettes.\r\n\r\nDuring the Cold War, NATO feared the massive tank army of the Warsaw Pact. The infantry of the German Bundeswehr, especially airborne infantry, was considered poorly prepared to fight enemy tanks in the 1970s.\r\n\r\nTo address this issue, the light, unarmored combat support vehicle KRAKA was introduced to support troops. It could be armed with an automatic cannon and anti-tank missiles, but lacked armor. As a result, a new design for an armored infantry fighting vehicle was begun. The requirements were that the vehicle should fit in common NATO transport planes and eventually be air-dropped. It should also be able to fight infantry as well as enemy main battle tanks or aircraft. Porsche produced some prototypes of the future fighting vehicle for the Bundeswehr in 1975, but the project was halted by the Bundeswehr in 1978 due to a lack of funds.\r\n\r\nHowever, Porsche continued development due to interest from other countries. The fighting vehicle was finally introduced as a new weapon system for the Bundeswehr in 1990 and named Wiesel ("weasel") due to its small size and agility.Price: $0.00 Date added: Aug 06, 2015 Last update: Dec 20, 2015 Product id: 55c3592fccff75b0688b46e4
