Update 8/5/2016: The issue with the ring's not fitting the mesh inserts was likely due to the ABS shrinking a bit. To avoid a jar lid that is too tight on the jar or does not fit the mesh inserts, print the lid at 102% to 105% of its original size. If you can't scale your software, I'll upload 102% and 105% oversized rings for your use. Please let me know your results with any parts you attempt to use. Hang on for now, don't print it yet! The ring fits the jars perfectly, but the insert doesn't fit through the ring. I'll have to adjust the ring to make it work. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. This is a Jar Ring for wide mouth mason jars. It's a remix of AlexEnglish's Canning Jar Lid (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:19105). I took his design and uploaded it to TinkerCad, punching a 73mm hole through the center of the lid. The ring fits the default Mason Jar Sprouting Insert by schlem (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:97431) perfectly. The outside dimension of the ridge on those inserts is about 72mm, so I made the hole size accordingly. The problem I had with metal mason jar bands rusting led me to try and find some plastic alternatives, but they're nowhere to be found! The tops that come with mason jar sprouting kits tend to stick on the jars, which is a real pain. That's why we're into 3D printing, right? These rings won't work for canning, so please don't try it! They're intended for holding inserts where metal bands would be a problem, such as sprouting seeds. I tried printing this in ABS and it worked, but the band felt like it was going to break. I think these would work better with more flexible filaments like PETG or something similar. Comment if you come up with something better, let me know! I used Simplify3D and auto-generated the supports.
