Whitworth with Pendulums
grabcad
The original project showcases a Dynamic Simulation in Autodesk Inventor 2014, featuring a Crank rotating at 4 RPM due to an imposed motion. Friction is not included in this simulation. The unique Whitworth mechanism allows one half of the driven Lever to move faster during one complete rotation. Videos are available to illustrate this concept. In the simulation, both pendulums follow dynamic laws while the crank rotates uniformly. Output Grapher.jpg depicts the maximum peripheral speeds of these pendulums at 4500 mm/s (or 16.2 km/h). To replicate this project in Inventor, download all files to a single directory and open .iam file with Inventor 2014, 2015, etc. Navigate to Environments > Dynamic Simulation and press the Play button. For faster processing, consider using 1000 images instead of 10000. Happy simulations!
