I built these specifically to support the whiteboard material I had purchased at the hardware store. Planning ahead, I determined I wanted to hang a map on it using some strong magnets, so I needed to attach the magnets behind the board, requiring the board to be elevated from the wall. This design enabled me to achieve that.
