Whistling arrow vane

Whistling arrow vane

This is a whistling vane for an arrow. It is designed to fit an ACE (5mm diameter) but should work with other sizes to be honest. They make a pretty good whistling sound when fired over a decent distance (otherwise the bow noise is dominant). I printed 3 of these in TPU (0.2mm layer height, Colorfabb varioshore TPU), and we stuck them on with double sided tape. Beware: if you print these in hard plastic and don't have enough clearance they will destroy the arrow rest and pressure button! The design includes the main whistling lip supported by a thin wall, this will need to be cut away, this is to prevent unsupported overhangs and allow for a very sharp and clean whistling lip (necessary). I use a sharp new scapel blade to do this, trimming off some of the thicker lip section in the process. Clean up the inside of the lip a little too if there's any stragglers. Be careful to avoid stringing inside the whistle - worth turning on the avoid crossing walls setting and printing them one at a time. Credit goes to Scarlet Engineering for designing a very good internal geometry.
