Whirlygig 2 and 3" Toothpick frames (v2)
thingiverse
Remix of the original Whirlygig to lower weight and improve flight performance. Printed frame is 5-6 Grams with ABS. Please note the file dates before printing as I am keeping the old stuff here as an archive of sorts. Original: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3597694 If you want the exact frame i have, we can have one printed and shipped to you: https://www.printhub.store/shop ** Flights ** 3" Whirlygig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqf5buWFk34&lc=z22wir0oxxyxshaleacdp434ijx0bfiovxuyhk5wplpw03c010c 2" Whirlygig: https://youtu.be/f63_mXVTwew *** Yaw PID Step Response *** https://youtu.be/IaulQLG__eA ** Hardware ** 2" Whirlygig Bluebird BMS-101HV Servo (19 tooth spline) BetaFPV F4 2-4S AIO Brushless Flight Controller 12A (BLHeli_S) DYS BE1102 Brushless Motor (7800kv) Frsky XM+ Receiver Toothpick Canopy https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3726519 Crazy Pony FPV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ ** Flight Notes ** 9-18-2019: Been flying the 3" Whirlygig quite a bit until i smacked a tree a bit too hard. Updated the frame to make the part that broke for me stronger as well as add support for Tinywhoop style flight controllers. 9-3-2019: First flight outside with 2" Whirlygig. 9-1-2019: Completed tune of 2" Whirlygig. Copy of CLI Dump added to files. 7-26-2019: Completed build for revamped 2" Whirlygig using the Betafpv FC and FrSky XM Receiver. 7-11-2019: Small change to the TPU mounts removing the need for supports during printing. 7-10-2019: Enhanced the 3" Frame with a custom camera mount, lid and TPU mounts. 7-5-2019: Completed the build, tuned and flown. May need to drop D-Term some as I hear a slight warble sound from motors. Otherwise the copter flies very smooth and motors are cool. Beyond that, I cant take this above 30% throttle without it turning into a rocket. 6-7-2019: Optimized both 2 and 3" frames. 6-6-2019: Added a beefed up Tilt-Mech. 6-4-2019: Received the Nylon / Carbon infused print late last week. Finished the rebuild today and performed the Maiden flight after Auto-tuning. 5-27-2019: This frame should hopefully print without the gap seen in the prior builds. (due to 0.4 mm print head) Furthermore, the arms are now 4 mm wide / tall and should allow for carbon reinforcement. (Air Foil shaped) I would still suggest limiting the amount of hollow space within the arms to help provide more stiffness. 5-22-2019: Change the arms a bit for better support and smoother airflow. 5-20-2019 Made a 3" Prototype using the first set of files. Copter flies at 10-15% throttle using the 4S-LiPo! However as the throttle is lowered the frames flexibility causes the copter to oscillate as it descends thru it's own wash. Note: Build weight is 120 Grams with Lipo / Props. 5-19-2019: Added screw-hole for the servo for those wanting to mount it without using a zip-tie.
