Whirlpool Atlanta Pump Impeller Problem Description: Water accumulates in the dryer's base and fails to flow into the reservoir or through the alternative pipe, resulting in wet clothes. If the condenser is removed, the interior becomes wet, and water flows out. Problem Cause: A floating switch within the base water reservoir activates a pump that should remove excess water either into the top drawer or through the back pipe, depending on how it's connected to the dryer. The Whirlpool dryer pump impeller is poorly designed and tends to snap off after a couple of years due to its thin hub. I redesigned the impeller to provide a tighter fit and a stronger base, printing it with semi-flexible TPE rubber. Please allow sufficient time for TPE to cure slowly. Instructions: Ensure the power cord is unplugged before proceeding. Take photos of all pipe and wire connections you plan to disconnect. Be cautious around the metal panel edges, which can be sharp; wear protective gloves or exercise care. 1) Open the dryer's back and top sections. 2) Remove the two screws securing the power connection to allow the rear panel to swing out of the way. 3) Carefully remove the switch (it should slip off easily), then disconnect the plug connecting to the pump motor. Be gentle with the polystyrene float. 4) Next, remove the three latches holding the pump in place. 5) Disconnect the pipes, making note of their positions or capturing photos for reference. 6) Remove the pump from its housing. 7) Access the base of the pump by opening it up to reach the impeller. 8) If the impeller is broken or detached, locate and remove it. 9) Fit the new impeller into place. Ensure a tight fit; if necessary, use a scalpel or needle files to slightly enlarge the hole. I personally used a small side cutter to trim the shaft end for a better fit. A loose fit may cause the impeller to fall off. 10) Secure the electric cables with cable ties and position them away from the float and rotating drum rollers. 11) Reverse these steps to reinstall the pump in its housing. Note: This repair requires patience and attention to detail, as well as basic tools and mechanical aptitude.
