Whimsical Sprinkler 16
thingiverse
This is a turbine-driven sprinkler that originated as a testbed for 3D-printed impulse turbines, but its unique design makes it a standout on its own merits. The turbine combines elements of Turgo and Pelton turbines to capture significantly more power than necessary from a 1.3mm jet stream, spinning at over 3000rpm. The turbine drives a 16-to-1 worm gear transmission that powers the deflector on the main 3mm jet, creating a coverage area of up to 6-9 meters in diameter. Due to the size of the main jet, this sprinkler requires a sturdy base or stake for stability. A clamp-on stake holder is designed to accommodate half of a 19mm wooden dowel rod and utilizes a 20mm M3 screw and nut for secure clamping force. Additionally, included files provide a STEP model of the GHT thread and turbine wheel, making it easier to reuse these components in future designs. Version 1.1 introduces a new redirector design, "Redirector 5.stl," which boasts an improved spray pattern and balanced reaction forces, reducing the likelihood of stake displacement during operation.
