Wheelchair iPad Mount
thingiverse
My oldest son can't talk and spends most of his time moving around on a wheelchair. His school started using an iPad to help with communication and speech, but some of the prices for mounting systems were really expensive. I decided to create one myself! This mount will probably need to be adjusted depending on your specific wheelchair since piping might vary. The hole for the pipe is oversized as I used rubber placemat material to wrap around it to prevent scratching and provide a great grip. The iPad is securely attached to the top plate with velcro, which seems to hold well. The gooseneck that I used can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Stage-Microphone-19-inch-Gooseneck-Black/dp/B00080KNG8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440721630&sr=8-1&keywords=On+Stage+Microphone+19-inch+Gooseneck%2C+Black&pebp=1440721632588&perid=0HFHHQBQQNKR42E9AP77 The small hardware is standard 4-40 nuts and bolts, but the larger bolt for the gooseneck may vary depending on the specific gooseneck used or any adapters purchased. With the iPad attached, it does sag a bit, but it's still manageable until I find a stronger neck. Something to note: there's a difference between US and UK-style microphone goosenecks. The US versions use a different thread pattern that can't be found at local hardware stores. I had to get adapters to make it work for me. Additionally, the hole for the large bolt is intentionally small so one has to use pliers to tighten it and avoid overtightening. A user can then unscrew the gooseneck from the top if they need to fold up the wheelchair. It's not an elegant solution by any means... but it was my first real project created in CAD, so I'm impressed with it!
