Wheel fix for Kids Volvo XC90 Electric Car
thingiverse
When my kid turned 2, he got an electric radio-controlled Volvo XC90 kids car as a gift. After just a few test drives, however, the wheels started coming loose and refused to attach to the axle anymore. I took apart the wheel and discovered that the problem lay in the two pins holding it to the axle, which were only secured by a thin strip of transparent tape. Friction between the axle and pins caused them to rip through the tape and become misaligned. My initial solution was to print a "collar" to surround the piece and keep the pins in place. It worked for a little while but ultimately broke down. I decided to create a spacer and use an external circlip and washer to secure the wheel instead. This project is the outcome, and it works flawlessly. The OpenSCAD file is attached for easy modification if needed. To replicate this fix, you will need to purchase four M5 washers with a 23.5mm outer diameter and a depth of 2.4 mm (or adjust the design accordingly) as well as four external circlips designed for a 12mm axle.
