Wheel Bearing Grease Packing Tool adapter / No Zert
thingiverse

Needed a faster way to repack wheel bearings with grease without taking apart the entire hub.

The problem is, commercially available devices that make this task easy are all made of metal, have a grease fitting or zert installed, and some even come with a back plate. These tools are too pricey for what they do, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I figured out that the pressure could be contained using a 3D printed adapter tool, and it wouldn't need a back plate if made with tight tolerances. I used supports during printing, but unfortunately, they messed up the threads on both parts. Luckily, these materials can be fused together by applying some heat. Since I was working with PLA filament, I decided to go ahead and use it. Next time around, I might need to look into chemical reactions for added assurance in my builds. If I were to redesign this tool, I'd move the center grease distribution area closer to the grease fitting to create angled dispersion tubes, which would reduce the amount of grease needed to prime the tool and potentially lower internal pressure.
