Wheat, scientifically termed Triticum spp., is a cereal grain initially cultivated in the Levant region of the Near East but now grown globally. In 2013, worldwide production reached 713 million tons, ranking it third among cereals after maize and rice. Wheat was second in 2009 with a production of 682 million tons, following maize (817 million tons) and preceding rice (679 million tons). This grain occupies the largest land area for any commercial food. International wheat trade exceeds that of all other crops combined. On a global scale, it's the primary source of vegetal protein in human food, surpassing maize and rice in terms of protein content. Rice leads in total production tonnages used for food, while maize takes the lead due to its extensive use in animal feeds. The archaeological record suggests that wheat cultivation began in the Fertile Crescent regions. Poly count: 13253 x 5 (5 models) = 66265; Vertices: 14466 x 5 (5 models) = 72330.
