If you don't regularly use your Western Digital MyPassport Pro external hard drive, and instead only access it every 6-12 months as a backup device for your camera or other media, the battery may eventually suffer from continuous drain of its internal electronics due to inactivity. My last portable hard drive fell victim to this very issue since no replacement parts were available. This time around, I upgraded my device with an added main switch that completely disconnects the battery, effectively preventing any unwanted power draw. Below are some detailed instructions on how to make this modification yourself.
