Western Digital My Passport Hard Drive Enclosure
thingiverse
I designed this collection of modular units to securely hold several Western Digital MyPassport external hard drives, keeping them organized and easily accessible on a server. Originally, the drives were slipping all over the place due to their varying sizes. This enclosure is intended to accommodate most size variations and can be used as a shelf, with individual units attached permanently to each other on the left, right, top, or bottom sides. The design includes an STL file for a cover that fits snugly over the drives. Additionally, I created a custom cover to hold my Amazon USB hub where the drives are connected. Users can add stick-on feet to the lower units and remove them when adding more units beneath. To ensure stability, users may want to consider adding cable management features. Updated: February 9, 2016 I updated the design of the Amazon Basics USB enclosure by bringing the brackets closer to the device and including top supports that aren't permanently attached. The supports are designed to be removable with a short stub glued in place; it might be better to use clips instead. For feedback on this design, please let me know your thoughts on the various locking mechanisms and slip brackets you've used. Your input will help refine the design for future users. Printer Settings: - Brand: MakerBot - Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator 2 - Rafts: No rafts were used during printing. - Supports: No supports were printed. - Resolution: The print resolution was set to 0.30 mm. - Infill: A diamond infill pattern was used at 10% density. Post-Printing Instructions: If you've printed multiple pieces, simply snap them together by lining up the parts and pushing them into place. Make sure to snap both sides simultaneously to ensure a secure fit. Once assembled, slide your drive into the enclosure, making sure the USB port is accessible through the back panel. Don't forget to print a top piece for added stability. Design Notes: This design was created using Tinkercad, an online 3D modeling tool.
