West Horton 5a (May 2006)
sketchfab
This area of outcrop boasts a prehistoric carving on its exposed surface, easily accessible from private farmland located northwest of West Horton, near Wooler, Northumberland. The carving, referenced as 'West Horton 5a' in the Beckensall Archive (BA), features an intricate design consisting of a cup and penannular motif. A distinctive groove runs from the cup but originates elsewhere, terminating at another cup. In 2008, NADRAP added this record to ERA, providing further insight into its motifs. It's worth noting that lichen coverage may be obscuring a ring located just to the right (north) of the primary design element. For optimal viewing, consider enabling Matcap. Additional information about this carving can be found on the ERA and BA websites: https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=54.
