The Wells CubeSat is a 1-piece ribbed isogrid structure, designed for spaceflight and 3D printable. It meets technical specifications from the "CubeSat Design Specifications" and uses materials available through additive manufacturing. The design aims to reduce part count by creating a unibody structure, cutting costs, weight while maintaining strength for environmental requirements. The CubeSat utilizes Ultem 2300 in Fused Deposition Modeling additive manufacturing technique, a 30% glass reinforced polyetherimide with exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and heat resistance. A hinged access door simplifies PCB mounting installation. The ribbed-stiffened isogrid structure maintains lightweight while meeting payload environmental requirements. The design was made to eliminate support material, reducing cost, time and post processing. Composite thermoplastics like Ultem 2300 reduce vibration excitation through damping, minimizing CubeSat payload loads during vehicle and component qualification random vibration environments, saving on design and testing costs. A preliminary assessment shows the design can withstand predicted 3-sigma acceleration environment.
