It takes about 4 hands to weld well: two hands to hold each wire, one to feed the weld and the last to hold the iron. The soldering assistant allows a simple two-handed mortal to solder effortlessly. The tool itself is simple. Two spring-loaded clamps hold the wires close together and a knob when turned dispenses the solder directly at the joint. Unlike flexible arm welding stations, which must be placed on flat surfaces, the welding assistant is portable and can be used on the move. The weld delivery mechanism is based on a drive gear commonly used in 3D printer extruders. An adjustable smooth tensioner pushes the solder against the drive gear. The tension of the smooth pulley can be increased or decreased by tightening or loosening an M5 bolt, respectively. This ability to change the tension of the tensioner allows dispensing of solder as small as 0.5 mm to as large as 3 mm. Solder is stored in the handle or pulled directly from a spool depending on how much mobility you need. Soldering large diameter wire requires a lot of heat, which can soften the pliers if the insulation gets too hot. For this reason, the following heat-resistant filaments are recommended: ABS petg The supplies are linked below: 625-2RS bearings (x3): https://amzn.to/3F1FTdD Springs 0.8x6x15mm or similar (x2): https://amzn.to/2ZCLnLu Drive gear (x1): https://amzn.to/2Y7NDKz Low profile bolt M5 x 30 mm (x1) Low profile bolt M5 x 15 mm (x1) M5 nuts (x2) M3 x 20 mm socket cap (x1) M3 nut
