Weighted Engineer's Pen Cup
thingiverse
My father requested I craft a container that could cradle one or two pens, its dimensions perfectly proportional. He wanted it substantial in weight and shaped like a cone. Once I had fabricated this item according to his specifications, he remarked that it reminded him of the pen holder he used on his drafting table during the 1970s. The bottom of the container is open, accommodating a 51mm outer diameter, 21mm inner diameter, 3mm thick washer. Its size appears imperial but was not carefully measured. Instructions I printed this design with 20% infill for additional mass and used ABS filament at a layer height of 0.3mm. In order to successfully print the washer hole, supports were required; however, my slicer inadvertently added these supports to the interior of the container. If you can prevent your slicer from adding supports after a specific layer or overhang threshold, you should be able to print the cone-shaped cup without any complications. The opening was carefully sanded to allow the washer to fit snugly inside; a few drops of CA glue were then applied to secure it in place. Finally, I attached an adhesive rubber coating to provide traction and improve its appearance.
