Weighted Encoder Knobs
thingiverse
These knobs match the standard 8mm encoder D shaft and add some extra weight to enhance the overall knob feel. I made these specifically for amateur radio projects, but they should be generally useable. All these files are designed to use 4.5mm airsoft shot to provide additional weight. "Hole" models have holes that allow the shot to friction-fit inside. To install, I used a tool to push the shot forward before adding more layers. Versions of the "channel" type provide extra space for shot but require epoxy to secure it in place. In my experience, I layered shot with 5-minute epoxy, but it took several days to fully cure. Your results may vary, so handle with care until you're sure it's fully cured. The knobs press-fit onto the shaft and don't need or accept a set screw. There are two main diameter files available: 20mm and 42mm. Additionally, there are low-profile versions of some designs for specific enclosures. Unless you need the low profile version, I recommend printing with normal height; otherwise, there's only 0.5mm of material above the encoder shaft. I suggest printing face down for best surface quality.
