Weighted Companion Cube box with sliding lid

thingiverse

This is a storage box based on the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal. The inside dimensions are 38.3 mm (1.5 inch + 0.1 mm on each side), which perfectly fits a 1 kg tungsten cube. The lid slides on and locks in place with the locking ball. An upside down version (if you want the lid hidden at the bottom) is included. Based on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33138 (Weighted Companion Cube by Poh), inspired (but not based on) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1613818 (Weighted Companion Cube Box by RSojak). A blender file is included if you want to make any adjustments. It's based heavily on boolean modifiers: The entire cube is placed twice (once for the actual box, once for the lid), then parts are carved out from it (or added) using boolean modifiers. 0.1 mm are left between the moving surfaces. If you move the locking ball object, both the lid and the box will be adjusted automatically thanks to the modifiers. Use "Selection only" when exporting. I've successfully printed the non-inverted version at JLCPCB, but the locking ball got sanded off, so I couldn't test the locking mechanism. If it doesn't work or is too tight, you can sand/scrape off the locking ball from the lid.
