Next up, fixing my weedeater - a Troy-Bilt TB6040 XP. It's a four-stroke machine that started giving me trouble when the line feeder came apart and those two small metal spools flew off. Luckily, one of them showed up a few weeks later, but the other remains missing. With my new printer, I decided to print some replacement spools. Keep in mind that you're using these at your own risk - I'm only trying this because I couldn't find substitutes without buying an entire line spool assembly. I printed the first set, but they only lasted one weedeating session. The second set had a reduced diameter inner hole to give them more plastic to wear down. Since the first design is still intact, I haven't used the second set yet. I used 100% infill for maximum solidity and supports to print the upper part properly. Cleaning these spools is relatively easy. When weedeating, one of the first two broke, but I think it was due to hitting something with it. Fortunately, I had another set printed, so I swapped them out and they lasted through the rest of the session. The intact spool showed significant wear, which prompted me to modify the inner hole for added strength. WeedeaterLineSpool_TroyBilt4Stroke.stl is the original design, while WeedeaterLineSpool_TroyBilt4Stroke_smallerID.stl should be even tougher and longer-lasting. However, I haven't tested these yet, as they might be harder to spool initially due to their smaller inner diameter. As always, use caution when working with weedeaters - wear eye or face protection at all times, along with long sleeves, pants, and boots. These printed spools won't match the metal replacements in terms of durability, but might get your yard done before you need to find more reliable alternatives. I designed these using FreeCAD 1.6 and used the following print settings: Printer: MonoPrice Maker Select V2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .1 Infill: 100% Notes: I printed at the highest quality possible since these spools will see heavy use, so I aimed for maximum strength.
