This is a Wedgwood sugar bowl from the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences collection.\r\nA circular red earthenware sugar bowl designed in Egyptian style features lug handles and a domed cover. The bowl's rim is decorated with a geometric band of applied black basaltes stoneware. A knop in the form of a black basaltes crocodile tops the lid, while the rim is bordered by a frieze of Egyptian motifs in black basaltes, including stylized hawk's wings and the god Horus in falcon form.\r\nAdjacent to these motifs are scattered hieroglyphs - some real, others invented. This Rosso Antico sucrier was made by Wedgwood and Sons in Staffordshire, England around 1805. Decorated with a frieze of Egyptian symbols, it features Black Basaltes.
