Recreating the Webster Chicago 18-1R Wire Recorder was a challenge that sparked my creativity after watching Techmoan's video on this iconic device. The design aesthetic of the original caught my eye and I was determined to bring it to life in as much detail as possible, pushing my modeling skills to the limit. From the outset, I set out to recreate it with minimal modifications to keep things simple, so I recreated all the textures in Substance Designer to the best of my abilities. The Bakelite material, mesh, and backplate turned out particularly well, but I still need to experiment with height maps and gradation to improve the speaker's mesh. For now, I'm happy with how it turned out despite some room for improvement.
