Webcam mount for Prusa i3 Mk2/S
thingiverse
My custom webcam holder design is specifically tailored to slide effortlessly onto the metal frame beneath the print bed, providing an unobstructed view of the printer's operations. The camera mount itself was designed to accommodate a budget-friendly webcam that I had lying around, its exact model unknown but recognizable by its square shape and four built-in LEDs. Initially, I assumed that these LEDs would provide sufficient illumination for monitoring the print feed even in low-light conditions, but unfortunately, they proved insufficient. To overcome this limitation, I invested in a Yorkville music stand light that can be powered via USB and plugged directly into my OctoPi setup. This light not only offers brighter illumination but also features movable arms, allowing for precise adjustments to suit the printer's specific needs. Both versions of the arm design are available, with the shorter variant being my personal preference due to my limited printing capacity. To secure the webcam cable, I utilize a couple of zip ties that provide a snug and reliable connection. The camera mount itself is a straightforward square design with an articulation connector from Tinkercad for added flexibility. However, over time, the joint may become loose, prompting me to consider applying glue for extra stability. Additionally, some internal tape provides a gentle frictional force, preventing the camera from falling out of its mount. Feel free to modify this arm design by attaching your own custom mount, making it compatible with any webcam you prefer.
