Webcam Mount for Monitor Stand
thingiverse
I designed a simple webcam mount for my monitor stand that fits snugly over the vertical support tube. My monitor stand has a center tube diameter of ~1.4" (35.5mm) and a height of ~8", which is perfect for my 26" screens. The ball and socket joint was remixed from Gyrobot's design, scaled up to accommodate the mounting bolt for my webcam. In addition to the two printed parts, you'll need a 1" long 1/4-20 socket head cap screw like the one available at McMaster-Carr (#92196a542). This screw fits inside the ball and attaches to the threaded hole on my Logitech C920 webcam. I also included an optional feature that allows for screws to be installed in two of the fingers of the ball holder, enabling you to lock the ball once you've positioned your camera. The holes are sized for #4-40 heat set inserts like those available at McMaster-Carr (#93365a120). Using these inserts and #4-40 screws will provide enough friction to hold the webcam without locking the ball. However, this feature proved unnecessary, as there is sufficient friction between the two parts to hold my webcam securely. If you plan to use a very large or heavy camera, this feature may be useful for added stability.
