Weatherproof Box for Wireless Tag for mailbox door
thingiverse
This watertight container and lid secure the outdoors-only motion sensor tag http://wirelesstag.net/ that alerts you when the door is opened or closed. A custom bracket has been attached to the hinge near the front of the door (as part of the door repair), curving around the edge of the door, creating a spot for sealing this box. The container is made from ABS and was 3D printed, making it an ideal candidate for acetone-based cement. This design positions the tag outside the box for a stronger signal. Instructions: The box design is saved as an AutoDesk Inventor Part file. I print the container and lid using ABS through my 3D printer. I then hang them upside down in cool acetone vapor, inside a paint can lined with paper towels sprayed with acetone, for exactly 25 minutes to make the surfaces waterproof, smooth, and shiny. Allowing it to stay too long in this environment may lead to distortion of its outer edges where the liquid can gather (they're held by a bent wire stand).
