Weather Vane Spinner Project 2017
thingiverse
This is the second year of this innovative project. The original description can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1907023. Students in the 6th grade participated in this project as part of a unit on weather. They designed and printed their own spinning weather vanes, focusing on enhancing their skills in 3D design using Tinkercad. This activity aligns well with elementary science curriculum, making it suitable for grades below 6. Skills and tools emphasized in this lesson include: * Mastering the shift key to resize objects without altering proportions * Rotating shapes to achieve desired designs * Utilizing the Adjust - Align tool to center objects accurately The project employs 4" bamboo skewers from the grocery store as the shaft of the spinner. These skewers fit snugly into a 4 mm socket, providing a secure connection. If using different size skewers, users may need to adjust the socket's size accordingly.
