Wearable Fez w/ 3d printed tassel
thingiverse
Because fezzes are so cool, I've finally got a printer that's large enough to print wearable hats and their stylish tassels too! The STL file is designed to fit comfortably on my XL head, but you might be able to adapt it for a kid's version using a standard-sized printer. The hat and tassel were printed with flexible FoxSmart TPU material, which feels surprisingly comfortable against the skin and offers excellent water resistance as well. You can hear more about this exciting project, plus lots of other interesting topics related to 3D printing, on our podcast - available now on iTunes or Stitcher Radio. Visit http://www.threedprintingtoday.com/ for further details. Here are my print settings: * Printer: Gigantor * Rafts: No rafts needed at all * Supports: None required either * Resolution: Thin .6mm layers and a 1mm nozzle size produce amazing results * Infill: Printing with no infill gives the best appearance, especially in continuous spiral mode Remember to follow these print notes: Place the hat's top edge down on the build plate for optimal printing. Set the printer to zero infill, leaving it smooth and unbroken. The cleanest look will be achieved using a continuous spiral mode setting. After printing both items, use scissors to trim off the little central nub to form the tassel hole. Take some strong filament thread through this new opening, then secure with a solid knot - I highly recommend this technique with TPU filament as it really makes a big difference! Finish off by repeating the same process with your newly printed hat, feeling proud of how amazing you look with your brand-new fez hat!
