Wax Seal, Melrose Abbey
sketchfab
This crimson wax seal was once securely fastened to a priceless 16th century artifact, a document steeped in history. Seals such as this were meticulously employed to affirm that a document or letter had remained unopened, and to confidently verify the sender's identity. This particular seal is an authentic representation of the Chapter-Melrose emblem. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice it features a striking image of the Virgin and Child surrounded by three dignitaries who may well be Magi. Unfortunately, the contents of the document remain unknown, as only a fragment of the original remains attached to the bottom. Nonetheless, you can still discern faint remnants of an enigmatic ink script. For more information on visiting the historic Melrose Abbey, please visit our website. Dimensions: 105 x 50 x 16mm.
