Watt Governor in Action
grabcad
This project demonstrates a Watt Governor mechanism in Autodesk Inventor 2014 using dynamic simulation and Inventor Studio. The main shaft experiences a torque of 300 N mm and its speed is governed by friction between the sabots and drum (μ = 0.2). With sabots contact, the rotation speed increases to a certain limit and remains stable. By suppressing 2D Contact joints for the sabots, they are free without contact with the drum, resulting in an increased radius and different speed graph. The Watt Governor mechanism maintains stability when friction is applied at the contact between sabots and drum. To view the simulation, open the .iam file in Inventor 2014 or later, use Dynamic Simulation, and adjust image settings for a smoother playback.
