One of two shaft markers for the former Wath Main colliery, located in South Yorkshire, UK.\nThe initial sinking of the first shaft started in 1873, with operations reaching the highly sought-after Barnsley seam three years later. The colliery ceased operation on March 25, 1988.\nThe plaque clearly states:\nBRITISH COAL CORPORATION / \nSOUTH YORKSHIRE AREA / \nWATH COLLIERY / \nNo. 2 SHAFT REFERENCE NO.
