Waterproof Cable Connector (Resin Filled / Customizable)
thingiverse
This outdoor electrical cable connector is designed to permanently encapsulate a cable splice within a solid block of resin, protecting it from environmental elements. Perfect for low voltage applications like pool lights, garden lights, boats, and underground sprinkler wiring, this free and customizable connector has withstood underwater use for over 12 months without signs of degradation or water ingress. However, note that it is not suitable for high-voltage connections (115VAC or 240VAC). To assemble and use the connector, you'll need polyurethane or epoxy resin with a catalyst, tape for both ends, and tools to solder or join wires. Follow these steps: 1. Customize and print the size of connector shell required, using spacers to help locate the cable joint. No support is needed during printing. 2. Thread the cable through the shell and splice the wires together, using heat shrink or tape for added protection if necessary. Ensure the wires are not touching the sides and have ample space for resin encapsulation. 3. Insert the wires back into the shell, using spacers or cable ties to hold them in place down the middle. 4. Tape both ends of the cable for a tight seal around the joint. 5. Mix and pour resin according to the manufacturer's instructions, filling the shell completely and ensuring no air pockets remain. Use a pin or wire to work the resin into every nook and cranny. 6. Clean up by cutting off any spacer ends protruding from the top of the resin-filled shell. Enjoy your protected cable connection!
