Watercolour/Gouache Travel Palette for Kaweco Sport Pen Box

Just before embarking on a well-deserved vacation late last year, I made up my mind to create a more compact travel setup for watercolours that would be easy to take on the road. I had a couple of Kaweco fountain pen boxes handy, so this seemed like an ideal solution. The kit is divided into two stacked trays - it's best to keep the palette tray at the bottom and the pen tray on top. The palette tray features 8 small wells, a large mixing area, plus one big well on the right that could be used for a small mop brush (I used a makeup blush brush in the photo, but now I prefer using water from my water brush). I might eventually use this space for white gouache, but for now, it serves as a separate mixing area. The pen tray is designed to be low profile, providing some separation between pens/brushes and paint while maximizing available space. My kit includes Kaimei brush pens, a retractable makeup brush, and a Pentel water brush. There's room on the bottom of the box lid or under the pen tray for a label - I recommend listing your chosen palette colour names there. These prints were solid due to my desire for durability. Although the walls are thin, this doesn't significantly impact print times. When choosing paint medium and support tone, you may prefer printing with white or grey filament. If neither is available, you can simply apply an enamel white or grey coat over the palette print instead.
