Water wheel with venetian blind slats

thingiverse

Repurpose plastic Venetian blind slats by creating a parametric disc that works as a water wheel and can be connected to an electricity generator. Originally designed in SketchUp over a year ago, the model is now available in OpenSCAD for customization of slat dimensions and blade orientation. CDs or DVDs could potentially replace plastic slats due to their abundance in trash. A short animation showcases the disc's functionality, while references to cross-flow turbines and water power sources are provided. To use the design, download 'banki_disc.scad,' adjust parameters as needed, compile, render, export as STL, print two discs, insert captive nuts and screws for balance, cut slats to size, and assemble on an 8mm threaded rod. A nozzle is additionally required for a functioning Banki-Michell cross-flow turbine.
