The Water Tower stood proudly at the heart of Bernardine Square since its construction early last century. However, a devastating blow came in 1944 when fierce fighting between Nazi German forces and Soviet Russian troops left the tower severely damaged. In the aftermath, local authorities made the decision to dismantle what remained of this once iconic landmark. Today, a poignant statue with fountain serves as a lasting tribute to its memory.
