Water Tank Filter Washer

Water Tank Filter Washer

Giant washer for filter sock on water tank! This quick and simple design is perfect for those who want to pre-filter the water from their roof before it enters the tank. Specifically designed for standard 80mm Marley downpipe, this washer requires a jointing socket or pipe end just before the pipe enters the tank. The washer sits over the pipe and is held in place by the socket. A small mesh filter sock wraps around the washer to capture any floating debris or dirt that would otherwise enter your tank. To install, simply wrap the filter sock around the washer and secure it with the socket. This design works best when used with a first flush diverter, which removes the first 10-20 liters of water from your roof before entering the tank. The results are impressive! Even with the first flush diverter in place, you'll be amazed at how much debris is caught in the filter sock. Cleaning the filter sock every now and then is a small price to pay for cleaner water. To take it to the next level, consider adding a cupful of activated carbon into another filter sock that sits on a grate below this pre-filter. For those interested, I've got plans for a 3D printed housing to hold a battery-operated DIY water level sensor and parts to indicate water level % to your home automation system. Stay tuned!
