An all-plastic water transport device has been designed and modeled by me, which can be used for various purposes such as moving water from rivers onto fields or emptying containers. This modular Water Screw is based on Archimedes' screw and features a fixed screw inside the tube to prevent water flow in reverse, requiring bearings on supports to allow rotation. The design is optimized for 3D printing with a build area of 200x200x200mm, recommending ABS and nylon for materials and isopropyl alcohol for gluing. However, the model has not been tested due to lack of a 3D printer. The device can be scaled or altered in length by adding bearing mounts every 5 body sections. The overall design should be strong, with potential improvements needed on crank and handles. To build the model as pictured, you'll need a 3D printer with a 200x200x200mm build area, ABS plastic (preferably clear), nylon, isopropyl alcohol, M6 nuts and bolts, and a short wood screw. Rafting and support may be required depending on the printer and speed settings. The model includes 8 body pieces, 1 filter, 2 handles, 2 bearing inner pieces, 2 bearing outer pieces, and 1 crank. Proper alignment of the reprap logo is crucial for successful assembly. Start by screwing the filter to the first body piece, followed by gluing or isopropyl alcohol application on rims and shafts, then connecting subsequent body pieces using nuts and bolts. Allow to dry before proceeding. Next, bolt on the crank plate, attach the short length handle to the top, and secure the ring to the crank handle with an appropriately trimmed wood screw. Assemble the body handles and bearings by following the provided instructions, using M6 bolts for connections. Finally, mount the device at a 30-degree angle in water and use the handles to turn it in a CW direction to draw water up the screw. If bearings are too stiff, add washers between outer bearing sections as needed.
