Take the adapter ring and attach open-cell polyurethane foam around it using a zip tie. Secure the seam with hot glue or ultrasonic welding. If this adapter ring doesn't fit your pump, you can use its built-in adapter as a model to create a replacement sponge filter adapter. A digital caliper is essential for this process.
