Please read my profile before downloading. WATERMILL PLEASE READ ALL THIS BACKGROUND This was designed for my own OO layout. It is small as my layout is very small. It is intended to be roughly 4mm scale. This came from one of my first attempts at 3d design and is not as refined as my newer stuff. The photo shows my Mk1 version. The design is still essentially the same but I have developed it to print in one piece (apart from the water wheel). I have also added a rear yard, retaining wall and steps. Mk1 may be useful to you if Mk3 and Mk4 are too large for your printer. After MK3 design, I realised that mills really should be 3-storey as the top floor has the grain bins, the middle floor has the grind stones and the lower flour has the flour shutes. My original Mk1 design is at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4696235 DESIGN I was not satisfied with my earlier design. These files are intended to be improvements. I have spent a lot of time developing the designs. There are basically THREE versions. 1. Mk1. The basic 2-storey mill building with sluice. This does not include the rear steps and sheds. It does have a mount for a motor to drive the waterwheel. 2. MK3. As above but with the rear steps, retaining wall and a shed. (No motor mount). 3. MK4. A 3-storey version with rear steps, retaining wall, sheds and motor mount. The model is intended to be built into a bank or slope. The rear door is on the first floor. The wheel projects below the base of the mill and will therefore need a slot cut in the base board. A trough for under the wheel is included. As the model prints, you may see vestiges of my earlier versions. Mk1 has some supports that will disappear into your scenery or could be cut away. TEST PRINTING I have printed prototypes and been pleased with the results. There have been some minor tweaks since the last prototype. Please don't blame me if I've messed something up. No supports or brim required. Watch your printer carefully through the first few layers and abort if it doesn't look right. Let me know and I'll fix it. DIMENSIONS The footprint of Mk4 is width 172mm, depth 142mm. Height 82mm. Doors are roughly 24mm high which equates to 6ft in OO scale. MOTORISING I used a very low geared motor purchased from Amazon. You need to buy one with a long shaft. The motor mounts on the designs are made for this motor. Two holes for the mounting screws and one for the motor shaft. The holes may need a little drilling out. (I used a PWM module to slow the motor right down). FILES - MK1_Mill - The basic 2-storey mill with sluice and motor mount. - Mk3_Mill - 2-storey mill with rear steps & retaining wall. No motor mount. - Mk4_Mill - 3-storey mill with rear steps, retaining wall & motor mount. (Note. This file has a few additions made after I printed the final prototype.) - MillWheel - The water wheel. Prints on its side with 3mm drilling for shaft. You will need to make a shaft from a lolly stick or use a motor. - MikkTrough - The trough that fits under the water wheel. FEEDBACK I really hope these models will be of use to someone. Please politely let me know if there are any errors and I will attempt a fix. Please also let me know if you get a successful print as this will encourage me to create some more designs. Any photos would be great! I will upload my own photos once the model is on my layout. A REQUEST I have found some of my designs for sale on eBay. Please do not use my designs commercially, they have taken me a long time to produce and I share them for free, not for others to make profit. I am pleased that some of my designs are being used to help raise money for an Air Ambulance charity. I was happy to give my permission for this.
