UPDATE 14.09.2019: New Version for ESP32-CAM Module Published A new version of the ESP32-CAM module is now available on Thingiverse, featuring [https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3860911](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3860911). In addition to hardware, a complete image processing and evaluation software has been published on GitHub: <https://github.com/jomjol/water-meter-measurement-system>. The server for image processing is also available as a Docker Image: [https://hub.docker.com/r/jomjol/wasserzaehler](https://hub.docker.com/r/jomjol/wasserzaehler) for easy implementation. Take a look and have fun! This system takes pictures of a water meter to monitor household water consumption, which is part of a larger house automation system. To achieve this goal, I created three major components: 1. A round clamping adapter to secure the water meter in place. 2. A tube with LED illumination that connects the camera to the water meter. 3. A camera holder containing an ArduCAM module and ESP8266 for connection to the house server and control of the ArduCAM and LED light. The 3D printed parts are connected using a self-made spherical bayonet connection. This design allows for easy adaptation to changes, such as exchanging the water meter or updating the camera module. It also simplifies installation and printing size considerations. The camera holder contains most of the electronic components (ArduCAM, ESP8266). It is based on the scalable box from [https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3202128](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3202128) and consists of three parts: 1. A bottom plate with a bayonet connection to the tube and holder for the ArduCAM module. 2. An inlay for fixing the ArduCAM and ESP8266 (D1 mini) modules. 3. A top cover with venting holes and a USB connector. The software and image processing are not part of this description, but here is a brief summary: * The system (ArduCAM + ESP8266) hosts an HTTP server that takes pictures of the water meter on demand. * The picture is analyzed on a Linux server using OpenCV, NodeJS, and PHP scripting. * The data is used in the scope of house automation and energy/water consumption monitoring. An overview of the full system can be found here: [https://github.com/jomjol/water-meter-measurement-system](https://github.com/jomjol/water-meter-measurement-system). The code and electric setup of the HTTP server are available on GitHub: [https://github.com/jomjol/water-meter-picture-provider](https://github.com/jomjol/water-meter-picture-provider). The construction was done in FreeCAD, and I have uploaded the FCStd files. However, they may not be self-explanatory or well-commented.
