Water Collection System
grabcad
This solar still addresses issues faced by other designs concerning potable water production time. The holding tank measures 18x18x2.5 inches, with a capacity of 2.5 gallons, fitting a 3D printer's 10x10 build space. A scaled version produces less but still supplies enough for a family of five daily. Designed for drought-stricken areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South America, the device is backpack-sized for portability, featuring straps and foldable legs for ease of transport. The unique feature is the pyramidal top made from lenses that magnify solar rays, heating water faster for quicker collection. This design saves time previously spent on searching for safe water, allowing users to focus on education or personal interests. Manufactured using a 3D printer with significant material savings compared to metal or solid plastic alternatives, only the lenses (from scrap TV screens) are non-printed components.
