The water-based freight transport system (WFTS) utilizes boats without propulsion systems, instead employing gravity on downward canal sections and Hallidie cable car technology for slight upward slopes and flat canals. Eppelsheimer bottom cable car gripper is used to grab the circulating cables powered by a motorized roller. For major upward slopes, a Stevelduct-inspired revolving elevator can be utilized, which efficiently loads two boats on opposing sides per rotation. The one-way canal system allows for multiple destinations, unlike the Stevelduct. Boats are equipped with cable and rail grippers, controlled by gripper motors 1 and 2, enabling smooth navigation through bends. An RFID system facilitates barge navigation, receiving signals from gates and other barges to determine location and required turns. The onboard PCB, powered by a rechargeable battery via solar panel or wind turbine, ensures correct maneuvers and collision prevention.
