Watch opening tool
thingiverse
The experience of having a jeweller scratch a watch during battery replacement made the user paranoid about future servicing. They discovered that a 3D printer could be used to create their own tools without risking scratches. The user designed and tested two watch back removal tools in Solidworks, with diameters suited for a Casio (41mm) and Seiko (33.2mm) watch backs. The actual part dimensions are slightly larger, and the tools were designed to accommodate a half-inch square drive or manual gripping. Scaling may be applied, but prongs should not be made too small to avoid snapping off. The user shares their experience as an example of self-sufficiency in battery swaps without damaging the watch. They printed the designs on an Ultimaker, laying flat. An updated version (V2) of the smaller tool was added for improved usability. Original STL files are debranded, and both tools may be suitable for some users.
