thingiverse
To create your personalized timepiece, use this case and crown with a large pocket watch caliber manual wind movement. You'll need to print the watch case and watch crown; purchase a 6498 or 6497 manual wind movement (prices range from $35 for Chinese to $390 for ETA Swiss movements); front and back crystals with compression gaskets (diameter: 40mm, compression gasket: 40.5mm); screw bars for 26mm lugs (strap width is 24mm, but lugs are extra wide); a 24mm watch strap with buckle; movement mounting plates and screws; and a dial and hands. You can find these components at suppliers like Otto Frei or make your own. As for assembly, follow these steps: 1) Install the watch movement from the top while ensuring it's in the winding position and remove the hour wheel and hour wheel gasket to prevent them from falling out. 2) Fit the crown stem with your chosen crown, trim and sand with wire cutters, then install by screwing and use glue if desired. 3) Secure the movement using movement mounting plates/tabs. Clean up the tab slots for a crisp fit. 4) Install the dial, fixing it to the movement bottom plate or using feet designed for a 6497/8 movement. 5) Attach hands (hour, minute, and small seconds, depending on your movement), adjusting their positions according to your purchased movement. 6) Place the crystal gasket and lay the crystal in place without needing glue as it will snap into position with the gasket. Remember, patience and a set of jeweler's screwdrivers are essential during assembly. Enjoy your DIY watch-making experience!
