It boasts a slightly more menacing appearance than its predecessor; in addition to increased height and weight, it now has darker skin, smaller pupils, and two prominent fangs. Its shell often bears scars from battles that this Pokémon actively seeks out.[45] A Wartortle also develops a pair of feathery ears, and its tail becomes white, fluffy, and too long to completely conceal within its shell;[46] these appendages greatly aid this Pokémon in swimming, functioning as oars and/or fins.[47] The tail is also highly valued by collectors, which has led people to hunt this Pokémon, significantly reducing their numbers.
