Warhammer Fantasy Movement Trays
thingiverse
I'm a seasoned warhammer 40k player, but a friend of mine recently picked up fantasy and on impulse, I decided to give it a shot too. We're playing 8th edition, so we quickly realized that movement trays are a game-changer for large groups of models. Since they're going out of style, I couldn't find what I was looking for from others, so I took matters into my own hands and designed my own. The challenge I faced was that printing the entire tray was incredibly time-consuming, so I decided to break it down into two separate parts - the border and the tray itself. This drastic reduction in complexity cut print times to about 20 minutes per tray. To test my design, I used a laser cutter to precision-cut trays out of cardboard, making sure every piece fit together seamlessly. Down the line, my plan is to swap out the cardboard for wood or acrylic, but for now, it looks like the cardboard will hold up just fine - and can even be cut with an exacto knife if you don't have access to a laser cutter. I've included three different variants: one with 20 models, another with 10, and a cavalry option. All of these trays feature 3mm of clearance around each model to accommodate any that won't fit snugly base-to-base next to each other. There's also an alternative version I designed using square laser-cut edges (tested out in cardboard, no less). While I'm not sharing those designs here, if you'd like to get your hands on them so you can precision-cut the entire tray with a laser cutter, just leave a comment - and I'll be happy to oblige.
