Warcraft (also known as Warcraft: Origins)[4] is a 2016 American action-fantasy movie directed by Duncan Jones and scripted by Charles Leavitt and Jones. The film is based on the extremely popular video game series of the same name, with a talented cast featuring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu. Set in a range of fascinating locations established in the original video game series,[5] Warcraft captures the thrilling early confrontations between humans and orcs. This action-packed movie was first unveiled in 2006 as a collaborative project between Legendary Pictures and the makers of the video game, Blizzard Entertainment.[6] On May 24, 2016, it made its world premiere in Paris before receiving a wider release from Universal Pictures in the United States on June 10, 2016.[7] Although the film was not well-received domestically and the critics were largely unimpressed by both the movie and script, it still managed to earn $433 million globally, setting a new benchmark as the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever, overtaking Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time despite its modest return on investment.
