War Gaming Counters
thingiverse
I got tired of using dice for wounds and such when playing Warhammer 40K and other tabletop war games, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. Using dice was becoming expensive, with prices ranging from $5+ per dial from various websites, and the designs available on Thingiverse just weren't cutting it. I wanted something custom-made and unique, but I didn't want to break the bank. These counters are designed to be single or double-digit devices that can be used for anything your heart desires. To ensure they're easy to read, I made sure the font size is bigger than usual, which is why you won't find a double-digit version with a single dial - each dial only goes up to 9. To keep them together and prevent accidental turns, these counters use a 10 mm by 1 mm thick magnet in both the top and bottom. This design provides enough friction to hold them in place without making it difficult to turn them. You'll need to print one number dial for each single-digit top, two dials for each double-digit top, and three dials for each triple-counter top. Don't worry, this is easy to figure out - just count the numbers! I've included four different number dials with the numbers facing in different directions, so be sure to print the correct ones for your needs. I've even added custom designs to the blank tops for my Warhammer 40K armies, which works amazingly well. However, since Games Workshop owns most of the logos and icons used in these designs, I won't be posting any copyrighted material here. Update: On October 17th, I added notched number dials, a triple counter, and a STEP file containing the basic shapes in a more editor-friendly format. Update: On October 30th, I removed the notched number dials and added a new 1-7 dial for tracking Warhammer 40K turns. I also redesigned the back side of the tops and the magnet area on the numbered dials to make them simpler while still keeping them together when turned. Both pieces are now slightly taller at 1 mm, and the holes have been enlarged to accommodate slightly larger magnets than 10 mm in diameter.
