War Dove monument in Brussels, Belgium
myminifactory
This is a massive memorial sculpture permanently situated in Armour Square, Brussels, Belgium. Victor Voets, a renowned sculptor (1882-1950), designed it in 1931 to honor the heroic efforts of war doves and messenger pigeons during World War I. Many 'War Dove' monuments are scattered throughout Belgium, but this one stands out as the most popular, depicting a dove soaring from the personification of Motherland for protection. Engravings on the base of the sculpture read, "To Belgian fanciers who sacrificed their lives for their country" and "1914-1918: To pigeon soldiers." This remarkable object is part of the "Scan The World" project, a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe. Scan The World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items nearby and want to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can make a difference.
