Wanhao i3 X axis microswitch bracket
thingiverse
A bracket to drop and "bury" the X axis microswitch, thereby freeing up Z axis space (when drag cable is also moved), physically protecting the switch, and making the top look nicer! This is part of a bigger project to build an all-encompassing case for the entire extruder head which will: be neat; hide all cabling; integrate a cooling system / fan; align the drag cable in the horizontal plane; look nice... The photos show... Parts required: a spring plus the original microswitch, and M3 bolt; Partial assembly, I used one of the M2 bolts to illustrate how it could be fitted; Sub-assembly, ready to go into printer; Watch it work here... https://youtu.be/I_ggdAgJ604 PS, vibration will probably cause the plunger to fall out!!! But the case (when designed) will retain it... Print Settings Printer: Wanhao i3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 75% Notes: Wanhao Premium Black PLA, setting set for strength as many areas are thin. Supports to help keep round things as round. I'm quite new to this so you may know better... Post-Printing Finishing off I cleaned up the plunger with 1,000 wet-and-dry, I don't want it seizing up! Tap the fat end of the plunger M3. Tap the narrow end of the plunger M2 (optional). Use pressure with the existing microswitch M2 screws to "self tap" them into the plate. Unscrew the drag cable from the extension plate at the top. Unscrew the extension plate. Unscrew top bearing bolts. Attach one end of the plate, slide extruder frame under it, align next bearing. Do up all the M4 bolts (I used black, flanged M4s because they look nice). Mount, tightening the bolts slowly so as not to twist the bearings, causing tight movement. Adjust the M3 bolt to get the frame clearance you want. How I Designed This More to come On its own this isn't enough, you now have nowhere to mount the drag cable!! So watch this space... The SCAD code is 100% basic, nothing clever.
